Admissions Advantage Out of State
A number of public universities have announced in the past few months their intent to increase admissions to out of state students. One of the universities that is increasing admission of out of state students is the University of California Berkeley. Their is a great article at Inside Higher Ed discussing the various colleges that are increasing their out of state admissions. This can be particularly attractive if you live in a state that does not have a strong public university.Even if you live in a state that has a good public university, some students just want to get out and try something new. While you will still need strong credentials to get admitted to Berkeley, it just got a little bit easier. So why are public universities increasing the number of out of state students they will admit? Out of state students pay higher tuition than in state students and thus generate greater revenue. Students who wish to attend an out of state public university can use this information to their advantage as long as financial aid is not an issue. Simple.
