A Conclusion is not just a summary of ideas or a restatement of the argument, but also a reminder to the reader of how the evidence you present contributes to your thesis.
Like the rest of the paper, Conclusion involves critical thinking and expressing final thoughts about your argument.
In the Conclusion of your paper, expand on your concerns a little and make your reader think about something.
For most essays, one good paragraph is enough to form a conclusion. In some cases, a two- to three-paragraph conclusion is also appropriate.
How do you write an interesting and effective Conclusion?
The following strategies can help you write a good Conclusion:
If your essay deals with a contemporary issue, then you elaborate on the possible consequences of not focusing on this issue.
Write about a specific programme of work.
Use an appropriately authoritative quote or point of view for the conclusion you draw.
Give a startling statistic, fact, or image to illustrate the final point of your paper.
Summarise the ideas from the main body of the essay.
Mention valuable future research in a scientific SCI paper or a social science SCI paper.
How does the genre of the paper affect our Introduction or Conclusion?
Most of the advice above applies to exploratory academic papers, excluding social science papers.
Note, however, that different dissertation genres will have different requirements for the Introduction and Conclusion of a dissertation. Some genres don’t even require an Introduction or Conclusion, e.g., a book review can start with a Conclusion and end with an overall evaluation of the book.
After you have finished writing the body of the paper, double-check the paper to see if all the main points are summarised in the Introduction or Conclusion, so that you don’t miss them.
