How to Write an Effective Study Abroad Appeal Letter

1. Expressing gratitude

When your school offers you the opportunity to appeal, be sure to say thank you first. If you know the person in charge, write “To Mr So-and-So”.

2. Explain the reason

Before applying for a second chance, you should explain why you made a mistake, and the reason must be sufficient and reasonable, not perfunctory, such as “I forgot the deadline”, “too much pressure from studying” and so on.

3. Demonstrate determination

Show what you are going to do to prevent the mistake from happening again. For example, how to correct a mistake.

4. Don’t make excuses

Don’t put the blame on the teacher or other people, for example, blame someone else because the teacher made a mistake or it wasn’t your fault, and especially don’t put it on the teacher or the school.

You can tell the truth, but be careful how you word it.

5. Stay humble

The whole letter should be modest, showing a determination to put things right, and also thanking the school for considering your request, whatever the outcome.
