① Provide a new perspective in the Conclusion section.
It is necessary to summarise the main points of the article and re-interpret the connotation of the theme. If there is no new perspective, the instructor will not be able to understand your point of view, which may lead to deduction of marks.
② Errors in reference format
Commonly used formats include APA, MLA, Harvard, etc., which vary. You need to be clear about the format used and ensure that the reference format is correct.
(iii) Lengthy use of language
In order to meet the word count requirement, students often repeated the citation of similar examples, which was considered by the lecturer to be too cumbersome.
(iv) Use of passive voice should be reduced
In most essays, the active voice is more suitable for expression, and excessive use of the passive voice may weaken the subject.
⑤ Citing unreliable literature
Some students look for inspiration from domestic websites because it is difficult to find out English literature. However, the use of Chinese literature is forbidden in foreign theses, so it is recommended to follow the instructor’s requirements.
⑥ Plagiarism
Plagiarism is common in dissertations, which will not only result in a low grade, but may even lead to suspension if it is detected. You must identify the articles you have quoted from others, and check the weight after completion. A high weight check rate will also be regarded as plagiarism.
Avoid using non-academic words
Subjective words such as “normally” and “obviously”, which shorten the length of a sentence, should be avoided in academic essays.
