Rigorous steps in writing an opening paragraph: from a brief background, to an explanation of the evidence, to a thematic orientation, and to a research

This paper shares a rigorous step-by-step approach to writing an opening paragraph: starting with a four-pronged approach: a background introduction, an explication of the evidence, a thematic orientation, and a research question that further elaborates on the particular value of the topic and the thesis in the academic community.

I. A background introduction that addresses the importance of X in three key ways;

II. an argumentative statement using the latest research findings to argue for the importance of X as one of the commonly used groups in XXXX;

iii. introduction of the disciplinary context that triggers the thesis concerns;

iv. establishes the purpose of this research and articulates the importance of this research topic to the issues in this area.

v. analysing existing research and highlighting its shortcomings as a way of highlighting the need and importance of the research done in this paper.

vi.In the research problem, propose a solution and clarify the research contribution based on the existing papers.

Based on the above, two important innovations are described: new data sources and new variable design.

The conclusion echoes the opening paragraph by re-emphasising the importance of the research and its contribution to the body of previous research.
