In this paper, we will analyse the structural elements of a dissertation in detail based on our professional knowledge, in order to help students gain a deeper understanding of its formatting requirements.
I. Structure
1. Cover page
The cover page should contain the following key information: the title of the dissertation (briefly summarising the research work), the name of the author(s), the affiliation of the author(s), and the date of the submission of the dissertation.
Writing the Abstract
The next section is the abstract. It should accurately summarise the purpose of the study, the methodology, the results, and the conclusions drawn, with keywords added as clearly as possible for ease of retrieval.
Catalogue
The table of contents is crucial to the structure of the paper and helps the reader to quickly locate the required sections. Therefore, it is important to ensure that the entire paper has clear and logical section headings with corresponding page numbers.
Introduction
In the introduction, the background, purpose and importance of the study should be clearly explained, and the research question and its hypotheses and objectives should be presented in order to provide readers with a more comprehensive understanding.
V. Literature Review
Literature review occupies an important part of the dissertation, and it is necessary to conduct a detailed review and analysis of relevant studies to demonstrate the ability to grasp the research area in depth. All citations should be acknowledged and reveal your own opinions and conclusions about the references.
Methodology
The methodology section should describe the methodology and experimental design of the study, including data collection, sample selection and experimental procedures. Strive to use clear and concise language to help readers easily understand the research process.
Results and Discussion
In this section, the results of the study should be presented and discussed in depth, making sure to analyse the research questions and hypotheses closely, and presenting the credibility and accuracy of the research conclusions.
Conclusion
The conclusion section should summarise the research results and mention the limitations of the study as well as the direction of future research, so as to enable the reader to form a complete understanding of the study and stimulate interest in exploring related topics.
References
In the final chapter, all references cited in the research process must be listed in detail. Citation standards can prevent plagiarism, refer to the use of “corner markers”.
