Guide to Writing SCI Papers for Study Abroad

Thesis title

It is recommended that, provided that the number of words chosen is no more than 20, a concise and attractive wording should be used to better reveal the topic of the paper. At the same time, it should be supplemented by subheadings to enhance visualisation and organisation.

English Abstract and Keywords

Under the content structure corresponding to the Chinese “Abstract”, it is recommended that the abstract be written in the third person and in the present tense. Specifically, it is recommended that the title be named “Abstract” (Abstract), and adjust its font, thickness, font size, and spacing and other professional attributes to the appropriate level in Times New Roman; the body of the article should be in accordance with the journal’s regulations or personal habits, the use of indentation and even line breaks and other ways to reasonably arrange the text elements.

Article Editing and Layout

Normally, Times New Roman font should be used for all foreign language texts; the font size depends on the specific requirements of different journals. For English writing standards, it is recommended to follow the following principles: no space is needed in the first paragraph of each section; the font size of subheadings should be clearly different from that of the main text.

Formulas

For the preparation of formulas, it is recommended to use MATHTYPE software; in terms of arrangement, formulas should be centred and brackets should be right-aligned in the standard format, and the specific presentation can be obtained through the Internet search experience.

Picture and table layout

For images, it is recommended to keep them centred; and for the layout of figure notes, it is recommended to review the relevant journal guidelines to determine whether they should be centred or left- or right-aligned. For images (e.g., Figure), refer to journal-specific conventions for full or abbreviated forms (e.g., Fig.). For tables, please be sure to follow the journal’s requirements for the production of three-line tables.

Other key information

Acknowledgement of attained and Declaration of Interests statements are also key points to focus on when submitting a paper. In addition, it should be emphasised that many journals are now requiring a separate statement of authorship for Author Contributions, and that authors should describe their contributions according to the standard terminology provided by the journal, rather than writing it arbitrarily.
