Example of a framework for the results/findings section of a UK dissertation

1. Overview of results

At the beginning of each section, a brief statement of the core theme of the section is required to facilitate understanding. Keeping the word count under 200 words, it needs to contain information on the background of the study, research questions and hypotheses.

2. Data description and descriptive statistics

This document should include a description of the overall distribution of the data and the results of statistical testing. When analysing the data, it is recommended to start from the main characteristics to determine the focus.

3. Graphical Presentation

According to the previous article, graphical presentations need to focus on formatting.

4. Subgroups (if applicable)

When data are divided into subgroups for comparison, this document should first present the subgroup characteristics and then summarise the comparison of differences across the subgroups or different subgroups combined.

5. qualitative analyses of results

If the experiment used mixed analyses or was limited to qualitative analyses, this document needs to describe the main themes, patterns, or insights derived from the study of the qualitative information. Remember to label references!

6. Comparison with research question or hypothesis

Directly state the relationship between the data results and the research question or hypothesis. Do not forget to include this section separately.

7. Limitations

While the data may be biased, this is normal. Please state truthfully that such limitations do not affect the scoring. As long as the analyses are done correctly, it is sufficient to state the facts as they are. This type of evidence can be beneficial to the evaluation score!
