Successful academic research relies on a thorough understanding and integrated use of existing literature, however, academic plagiarism is a serious detriment to academic ethics and reputation. This technical document aims to provide students with countermeasures to prevent inadvertent descent into plagiarism in academic research.
I. Citation and referencing norms
1. Clear citation principles: the paper should clearly indicate all citations, whether they are copied, modified or using original methods. The citation includes pictures, formulas, charts and so on. Unauthorised excerpts of other people’s research results or the use of unpublished data as the content of the internal text constitute plagiarism.

If the assignment involves a weight check that exceeds the standard, students must take immediate action to lower the weight to avoid adverse consequences. Schools generally use Turnitin weight checking system, the account and password and weight checking services are provided free of charge.
2. Make good use of university resources: many universities provide free weight checking services, and students should seize the opportunity to test the repetition rate of their dissertations on a regular basis to ensure that the quality of their articles meets the requirements.
