Methodology explores the theoretical foundations and research methodological strategies, with the core consisting of four key points:
1. the way and content of data collection;
2. the specific methods and paths for implementing data collection;
3. the source of data and its credibility;
4. the methods and conclusions of data analysis.
How to choose the right Methodology?
Firstly, identify the objectives and key questions of the study or project; secondly, consider the attributes of the research design (empirical/theoretical, quantitative/qualitative, etc.) to narrow down the scope of the methodology; secondly, review the results of the research in the relevant fields to get a grasp of the methodologies that have already been widely applied; and lastly, according to the characteristics of the research design and the requirements of the data collection, select an appropriate quantitative or qualitative research methodology.
Qualitative research uses non-data materials (e.g., images, text) to gain an in-depth understanding of individuals, groups, and communities, and requires attention to the selection of participants or sources, the context of the study, and the roles in data collection. Quantitative research focuses on data collection and analysis and allows for inferences to be made.
Quantitative research requires a detailed description of sampling methods, data collection tools, and collection processes with examples of relevant formulas. In addition, explain the reasons for choosing a particular method and the possible limitations of that method.
The description of sample characteristics should include information on how eligible women were screened, how participants were grouped by a particular indicator, and the number of respondents interviewed.
In the research progress section, existing studies should be listed and their impact assessed. Also, the previous literature should be evaluated in terms of time dimension and research methodology.
The conclusions of previous studies should be clear and easy to understand to provide strong support for subsequent studies.
