Tips on writing paraphrases and citations for essays

I. What is thesis paraphrasing. Thesis paraphrasing refers to rephrasing another person’s viewpoint or thesis statement in one’s own words without changing the meaning of the original text. This can not only enrich the content of the article, but also effectively avoid plagiarism and enhance the depth and originality of the article.

Second, how to paraphrase a thesis. When paraphrasing a thesis, the following rules should be followed:

1. Single-authored papers: adopt the format of ‘author’s name + year of publication + publication + verb + paraphrase’. For example, Henninger (2016) first introduced the idea of SFC comprehensiveness.

2. Multi-authored papers: adopt the format of ‘author A’s surname + author B’s surname + year of publication + publication + verb + paraphrase’. For example, Min and Ko from China revealed in 2017 that the SFC concept and industry only existed in 2015.

3. Papers with three or more authors: adopt the format of ‘Surname of the first author + etc… + year of publication + publication + verb + paraphrase’. E.g. At the end of 2017, Castro-L6pez and his team started to focus on the impact of the environmental problems caused by clothing production on SFC.

4. Collected papers: adopt the format of ‘author’s name of paper A + year of publication of paper A + author’s name of paper B + year of publication of paper B + author’s name of paper X + year of publication of paper X + paraphrased viewpoint’. For example, Henninger et al. first proposed the concept of SFC in 2016, while Blazquez et al. further elaborated it in 2020, and finally Castro-L6pez et al. introduced the three fashion concepts of green, ecological, and ethical, which constitute the existing theoretical foundation of SFC.

Third, how to correctly cite others’ papers. When citing others’ papers, the following rules should be followed:

1. citing complete information: including author, year, journal name, page number, etc.

2. Reasonable arrangement of citation position: the citation should be put at the end of the sentence and enclosed in brackets.

3. Avoid excessive citation: avoid citing multiple documents by the same author consecutively so as not to give the impression of repeated citation.

The following are some examples of how to cite the literature!
