Ten mistakes in foreign papers
Hello everyone! I’m a teacher specialising in foreign education, and today I’d like to share with you some dry tips on writing foreign essays.
Introduction section: no background or too short. A good introduction should provide enough background information for the reader to understand the topic and purpose of the paper.
Literature citation: no proper citation or poor citation format. When using other people’s ideas or data in the paper, they must be cited and labelled in a standard format.
Language quality: grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, or unclear language. When writing a paper, pay attention to grammar and spelling to ensure that the language is clear and accurate.
Lack of logic: no logical relationship between paragraphs or inadequate argumentation. Each paragraph should have a clear topic and the argument and the process of argumentation should be coherent and logical.
Lack of critical thinking: there is no critical thinking or analysis of ideas. In an essay, one should not only present one’s own viewpoints, but also analyse and critique different viewpoints.
Inappropriate citation: citing content that is not relevant to the topic of the paper or citing that is too old. When choosing literature to cite, make sure it is relevant to the topic of the paper and that it is as up-to-date as possible.
Lack of detail: not enough examples or data are given to support points. During the argumentation process, specific examples or data need to be given to support your points.
Conclusion section: does not summarise or is too brief. The conclusion is the last part of the paper and should summarise the whole paper and point out the significance of the research and directions for future research.
References: not formatted correctly or do not match the text. References are a very important part of the paper and must be formatted according to a standardised format and match the in-text citations.
Length issues: the paper is too long or too short. Generally speaking, each thesis has a fixed word count requirement, which needs to be written according to the requirements to avoid too long or too short.
