An overview of the methodology framework for international students

Methodology i.e. the theoretical basis prior to the research, is equivalent to methodology.

It includes the following four elements.

①Data collected

② Acquisition method

③Source of data

④Data analysis method

How to find the applicable Methodology?

1. Define the research or project objectives

Clarifying the objectives and questions of the study or project helps to understand the type and applicability of the Methodology.

2、Research Design Considerations

Consider the design characteristics of the study or project, e.g., is it an empirical study or a theoretical analysis? Is it quantitative or qualitative? Such characteristics can help to narrow down the appropriate methodology.

3. Review Previous Research

Research previous researchers and methodological practices in the relevant field. Examine which methodologies have been widely used in similar research areas or projects.

Qualitative Methods.

Qualitative primarily collects non-data information that can be used to gain insight into individual, group, and community perspectives. Be sure to pay attention to the criteria for selecting participants or sources, the context of the study, and the role in collecting the data.

Quantitative Methods.

Quantitative is analysed through the collection of data and is based on speculation. Attention should be paid to sampling methods, data collection instruments, and processes. Below is a list of some of the quantitative method descriptive formulas.

Survey – when, where, and how.

Experimental – what tools, what techniques, and at what pace.

Secondary data – where to get it and how to filter it.
