Hi all international students, today I’m going to review the structure of the thesis dissertaiton as a whole~ .
.
Generally speaking, the thesis in the UK is mainly assigned and written according to the following structure and proportions
Of course, it can be adjusted according to your own writing situation and research content.
Introduction
Percentage: 10-15
This part of the thesis should provide a background introduction to the research, and introduce the research objectives, research questions and specific content of the thesis, as well as the overall structure of the thesis, including quotations and introductions.
Literature review
Percentage: 25-30
This is a literature review that summarises previous scholars and relevant literature in the field of study. Make a reasonable explanation and evaluation of the main research questions to illustrate the background and foundation of the study, to show the teacher and the school the knowledge system and theoretical support you have covered in the references, and to find out the research gap.
Remember to analyse and present the references in a logical order.
Methodology
Percentage: 10-12 per cent
Introduce the type of research you have chosen for your dissertation, what research methodology you have chosen, why you have chosen this methodology, where you have collected the data, and how it will be useful and effective.
Findings
Percentage: 25
Demonstrate the collection, organisation and presentation of your data.
Discussion
Percentage: 15-20 per cent
Analyse and plan and organise the research data to produce findings.
Conclusion
Percentage: 10-15
Summarise the research question based on the findings and discussion.
Never present new ideas here
The above are the simple writing method and the main structure of a thesis in the UK.
You can refer to them to arrange your dissertation! Of course, the dissertation is very important and complex, and needs to be discussed and decided according to the specific academic situation and research content. I wish you all the best with your dissertation!
