The introduction, the prologue in a dissertation, occupies a small percentage of the overall length of the dissertation, but its importance should not be overlooked. A good introduction not only catches the reviewers’ eyes, but also enables them to better understand the author’s research question and purpose. However, it is not easy to write such an important introduction well, which challenges every researcher’s writing ability and knowledge reserve. In this paper, we will deeply analyse the components of the introduction and its key points from multiple perspectives, in order to help the majority of dissertation writing enthusiasts to explore a more effective writing path.
I. Analysis of the proportion and importance of the introduction in the thesis
It is understood that the length of the introduction in the thesis is about 10-15% of the total word count. Although the volume is not large, but the role played is not to be underestimated. (3) Optimise the expression of each element, such as avoiding the same opening sentence, a clear definition of the problem, a detailed list of references, the use of a neutral position, combined with the existing theoretical and practical results, and so on.
IV. Example Analysis of Introduction
As an example, the introduction of an English medical paper on how to promote the improvement of sleep quality is as follows:
“The significance of good sleep in maintaining health can rarely be understated. Nonetheless, the rapid pace of modern life often prevents This paper aims to discuss several strategies for improving one’s sleep quality. ”
In the above introduction, “sleep,” “health,” “restful,” and ” improvement” are used as the key words. improvement” are clearly presented as key words, and background information such as the fast pace of modern life which makes people unable to get enough sleep is also reflected in the introduction. Meanwhile, the main purpose of the thesis is also explained in the introduction, i.e. to explore various coping strategies to improve the quality of sleep of individuals.
