Overview of Study Abroad Research Methodology

I. Overview of research methodology

1. Introduction stage: to clarify the various key elements of research methodology, such as research design, data collection methods, analysis strategies, sample populations and so on. For example, the structure of the chapter may include the research topic, the research subject, the research instrument, the research process and data processing.

2. Explanation of academic theoretical foundations: Detailed explanation of the application scenarios as well as the pros and cons of each of the three mainstream ideas of positivism, hermeneuticism and post-positivism.

3. Brief description of research design: emphasise the two directions of qualitative and quantitative research and the mixed research mode, explain in detail how to choose the appropriate research method and its advantages and disadvantages.

Evaluation of data collection tools

1. Data Acquisition: Analyse in detail the form of data sources – original data such as survey results, or compiled data such as company annual reports, financial market statistics, etc.; as well as the reasons for choosing a particular data collection method, its benefits and its limitations. It is important to pay attention to the credibility and validity of the data sources.

2. Sample Selection

Sampling is required for both quantitative and qualitative research. Random sampling is used in quantitative research, while representativeness is emphasised in qualitative research. Sampling needs to list in detail the rules, the characteristics of the research object, sampling location, time and other information.

III. Description of sample characteristics

IV. Basis of research method selection

Combined with the research path and research philosophy, analyse why the qualitative, quantitative or fusion methods are chosen to solve the research problem, and at the same time pay attention to the strengths and weaknesses of these methods.
