Guys, have you ever been told by your teacher that you are not rigorous because of the incorrect citation format when you write? Don’t worry, today I’ll teach you how to cite correctly so you can look more professional.
The most common is the APA format. Just write down the name and year when citing, especially useful for social science papers.
Next is MLA format, which is widely used mainly in the humanities. This one involves using names and page numbers, and all citations are listed by name. If the author is not spelled out, then the beginning letters of the title of the book are used instead.
Moving on to the Harvard format, it is the same one that you often see in science and social studies. The citation still uses the name and year, and if it’s a chapter of a particular book, you have to add the author, initials, year, title (slanted), edition number, place of issue: publisher, and page number.
Next comes the Chicago format. This one is cited with footnotes and is common in literature, history, and other humanities subjects. There is also a double-tagging method that is more appropriate for the sciences, such as history and sociology journals, among others. A footnote citation also needs to be labelled with a number in the upper right hand corner and the numbers should be sorted by the person’s name. The name in the footnote should have a capital initial.
When it comes to the note numbers at the end of the citation, they should be added after each citation. Footnotes are to be indented on all lines when typed. Endnotes need to be on a separate sheet of paper. The information included includes: author’s name (first name first, last name second), book title/article title, publication information (specify book or article), book: place of issue, publisher, year, and page number (the first two in parentheses); and article: magazine name, book or journal issue, year, and page number.
This is the citation format we often see, I hope it can help you. Remember to double-check the source of each citation, with a standardised format, so that we can better advance in the academic road ah!
