Essay construction:
Intro – the first paragraph, which encapsulates the theme and structure of the text, at 10 per cent;
Body – the main body, including most of the information, up to 80%;
Conclusion – the concluding paragraph summarising the whole text, within 10 per cent;
Reference – a separate page detailing all references, not counted in the total word count.
Essay writing steps:
Step1: Choose a topic for your essay;
Step2: Confirm the thesis point;
Step3: Develop a clear core idea;
Step4: Cite three arguments that support the idea;
Step5: Find three sources of argument for each argument.
To ensure the clarity and coherence of the essay, it is recommended that the Introduction section be divided into one paragraph instead of two, which should include four main points: background introduction, analysis of the intention, examination of the methods and theories used, and an overview of the structure of the essay.
When writing the Body section, the general paragraph structure consists of five parts in order:
1. Topicsentence, which summarises the core theme of the paragraph. 2;
2. Explanation, which elaborates on the topic. 3;
3. Evidence, using various examples to persuade the reader;
4. Evaluate, analysing the strengths and weaknesses of the argumentation process;
5. Link, summarising the contribution of the paragraph to the overall argument.
